Poetry: What The Chicks Don’t Know

What The Chicks Don’t Know

Chicks

fuzzy

sweet

hatching from delicate eggs

following their mommy

obedient

innocent

do you know why?

No one knows.

They are

young,

never known fear,

for they know

their mommy will protect them.

They’ve never known a great fear,

something scary-

a predator.

A hawk has never swooped down on them and

swallowed them in one gulp.
