Cupboard Under the Stairs

Most people use their cupboard under the stairs just as storage, but I use my cupboard under the stairs as my bedroom! We happen to have a pretty big cupboard under the stairs. It’s L shaped, so when you walk in I have a twin mattress on the floor as my bed and then I have my dresser at the end of the L.

We used to use our cupboard under the stairs as a reading room, but it didn’t work super well and nobody ever went in there. It started being used as a “put random stuff in here because you have to clean up” room. It was VERY messy.

I happen to love Harry Potter, and I wanted my own bedroom. If you’ve read the first book of Harry Potter, then you know that Harry had the cupboard under the stairs as his bedroom. I thought that maybe I would use the cupboard under the stairs as my bedroom! (and yes, my twin mattress fit perfectly)

I love using the cupboard under the stairs as my bedroom, but a lot of people probably don’t have a big enough cupboard. It would be fun to turn a cupboard under the stairs into a Harry Potter room or a reading nook (as long as neither of them turn into junk rooms!)

It’s not very expensive to furnish a cupboard under the stairs. I got everything in my room (including the mattress and dresser) from IKEA, Target, Pottery Barn Teen, and Amazon. I also made a few things, like my corkboard. If you want Harry Potter decor, both Pottery Barn Teen and Target have Harry Potter lines. Amazon also has a ton of awesome options. (I love the Pottery Barn Teen Harry Potter line, but it is also super expensive.)

Are you going to turn your cupboard under the stairs into a bedroom? Or a reading nook or Harry Potter room?

That is epic! Unfortunately, the cupboard underneath our stairs is right next to the main bathroom and isn’t particularly big, and I’m claustrophobic so that probably wouldn’t end well for me.
