I’m gluten free, and I love food. And sometimes it’s hard to figure out what to eat the rare times we eat out. But I’ve figured out a few ways to make it easier to eat gluten free at restaurants.
How do You Know if it’s Really Gluten Free?
There’s always a chance that your food isn’t gluten free, and that can be a bit scary. There is a portable gluten tester, Nima, that can test food. However, it’s really expensive.
How can you try to Make Sure it’s Gluten Free?
Do Some Research
When we went to Disneyland (read my review here), I did some research before and was able to find a blog post about gluten free food at Disneyland that had all been tested with a Nima sensor. It was super helpful, but of course there’s always a chance that the recipes have changed.
For Reservations, Tell Them When You Reserve
If you tell the restaurant people when you reserve, they will be more likely to have gluten free ingredients prepared. When you walk into the restaurant, you can tell them again too.
Know What Ingredients Have Gluten
Don’t be afraid to ask for the ingredients, and Google ingredients and products.
Say That you Have a Gluten Allergy
For places like Chipotle or In’n’Out, you can specify that your order is for a gluten allergy, and they will be more careful – changing gloves or making it in a special area of the kitchen.
