Since April is the first of two NaNoWriMo Camps, (there are two NaNoWriMo Camps, one in April and one in July–the actual NaNoWriMo is in November), I decided to write a post on the ideal writing environment. So–what DO you need to make the ideal writing environment?
Time
You need to make sure you aren’t doing things when you should be writing. Check your calendar! Add a time slot for writing every day, maybe even for five minute sessions inbetween the things you have to do. Maybe you should set a timer! Also you should do your chores BEFORE starting your writing session. You never want to stop once you start, so get everything done with so that you have a free space!
A Buddy and Inspiration
Okay, maybe you don’t REALLY need this. I have a really awesome buddy–a puppy. She will sit on the couch while I write, and that makes the whole writing session a lot better. I like to also listen to music with no words while I write–I have a whole playlist titled Writing Music! NaNoWriMo also has some pretty fun Write-In sessions–check their YouTube channel. You can also meet up with a group of writer friends, and at NaNoWriMo Camp, you have a cabin where you can post and see each others’ progress.
Be Prepared
Get all of your writing materials together, and find the perfect place to write your novel. Maybe grab your notebook and a few pencils and pens, your phone, laptop, and snacks and find your favorite spot. Don’t forget, your favorite spot can change each day. It could be the backyard on a warm day, or on the couch with a blanket and hot chocolate, or even in the car or the hotel! You should ALWAYS carry writing materials with you. You never know when you will find a brilliant idea!
What are your favorite writing materials for your writing environment?
